Vanita Gupta to Keynote 19th Annual CRA & Fair Lending Colloquium

Head of DOJ’s Civil Rights Division Among Prominent Regulators and Industry Experts to Speak at Event

Wolters Kluwer Financial Services today announced that the keynote speaker for its 19th annual CRA & Fair Lending Colloquium will be Vanita Gupta, principal deputy assistant attorney general and head of the Civil Rights Division, U.S. Department of Justice.

Gupta became the head of DOJ’s Civil Rights Division in October 2014. Under Gupta’s leadership, the Division continues its crucially important work in combating discrimination in lending and housing. She previously was deputy legal director of the American Civil Liberties Union and director of its Center for Justice. She began her career as a lawyer with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund. In addition to her work with those organizations, Gupta taught civil rights litigation and advocacy clinics at New York University School of Law prior to joining the Justice Department.

Along with Gupta, more than 70 federal regulators, attorneys, bank compliance officers and other industry experts will speak to an expected crowd of more than 600 attendees at this year’s Colloquium, held Nov. 1-4 at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Hotel, Orlando, Fla. Since its inception in 1996, the Colloquium has grown to become a major forum for compliance officers seeking insights about navigating the increasingly complex regulatory and risk management challenges facing financial institutions today.

Among this year’s speakers are several other prominent experts from the DOJ, including:

  • Steven H. Rosenbaum, chief, Housing and Civil Enforcement Section, Civil Rights Division
  • Jon M. Seward, deputy chief, Housing and Civil Enforcement Section, Civil Rights Division

“The Colloquium provides a unique forum to discuss and debate the increasingly complex compliance challenges facing professionals today in the financial services industry,” said Raffi Festekjian, chief executive officer for Wolters Kluwer Financial Services’ Finance, Risk & Compliance business. “We are pleased that this event continues to grow in prominence and offer value for a range of attendees.”

Sponsors of the 2015 Colloquium include the American Bankers Association and the Independent Community Bankers of America.
