Why cybersecurity is crucial for law firms now, more than ever before
Whether they are trade secrets, intellectual property, wealth, income and financial details, lawyers have access to confidential information about their clients and business dealings. Ideally, a law firm must have a sophisticated cybersecurity strategy in place to safeguard all these coveted data. For many law firms, however – whether due to financial limitations or a simple failure to declare cybersecurity a priority – this kind of strategy is still beyond reach.
When an overabundance of important information is shielded with inadequate cybersecurity, it should come as no surprise to discover that law firms are considered an alluring one-stop shop for hackers and cybercriminals eager to steal sensitive data.
According to the 2021 Legal Technology Survey Report by the American Bar Association, a quarter of the respondents reported that their law firm had been breached at some point. Indeed, the cybersecurity threats over data managed in computers, networks and cloud services continue to grow and challenge lawyers and their firms.
