Description
The booklet is of evidence-based step by step procedures for the basic care activities that personal care workers are called upon to provide. The booklet has been developed by a specialist Aged Care Expert Reference Group within the Joanna Briggs Institute at The University of Adelaide, to be an evidence-based resource for best practice in meeting the care needs of older adults.
All staff working in residential aged care are privileged to be given this opportunity by families to provide care and support for their loved ones at this later stage in their life. Facilities that provide personal care workers with this evidence-based booklet are committed to high quality, respectful care and in supporting the practice needs of their care staff.
The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission (Commission) expects organisations providing aged care services in Australia to comply with the Quality Standards. The Quality Standards focus on outcomes for consumers and reflect the level of care and services the community can expect from organisations that provide Commonwealth subsidised aged care services.
This expectation is enhanced and facilitated in organisations that use evidence-based resources, tools and services such as the two companion JBI Evidence-based Aged Care manuals to align their organisation to consumer expectations for safe, quality care and services.
1. The Evidence-based Carers Manual focuses on the activities of daily living needs of residents and how these can be met both in accordance with the standards using best practice. The manual has been created to meet the knowledge needs of the Australian carer workforce, a dedicated and diverse group. This manual is aligned with Aged Care Standards 1 and 3
