Tom began his 35-year nursing career in critical care (pediatric intensive care and Level 1 Trauma Centers.)
For the past 30 years, Tom has specialized in infection prevention and control. He spent 18 years as director of infection prevention in acute care and rehabilitation hospitals, as well as providing consultative work for hospital systems. For the past 12 years, Tom has specialized in automated, electronic clinical surveillance, data analytics and regulatory reporting in support of infection prevention and other clinical disciplines.
Tom is a member of the Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology (APIC), the Society for Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA), the American Nurses Association (ANA) and the Sepsis Alliance. He has presented lectures at national and regional conferences on a variety of infection prevention-related topics.
Tom holds a bachelor of science degree in social work from Loyola University (Chicago), a nursing degree from Illinois Masonic Medical Center School of Nursing and is board certified in infection prevention and epidemiology.
