What does digitalisation look like in your legal department?

This question is at the forefront of an exclusive report, The Legisway Benchmark for Legal Departments, which has been launched by Wolters Kluwer and the European Legal Tech Assocation (ELTA). The results are based on a survey of over 520 in-house legal professionals, which explored the state of digitalisation in legal departments across Europe.
 
The report offers perspectives into the transformation that is taking shape including:
  • Allocation of budgets towards the acquisition of technology tools and services
  • Development of digital strategies
  • The most common challenges around the decision-making and implementation process of technology when introducing legal technology. 


Main Findings:

The top improvements that legal departments have already made are:

  • Collaborating with other departments 
    throughout the company and third parties 
    (33%)

  • Managing priorities and deadlines 
    (29%)

  • Demonstrating the value of the 
    legal department to business 
    stakeholders (28%)

  • Managing documents and contracts (27%)


The rise of legal operations:

About 1 in 2 organisations has a dedicated legal operations function, regardless of the size of team or company.


Top challenges when introducing legal tech:


Budget is the biggest issue legal departments face when introducing legal technology tools and services, as 57% of respondents cited securing budget as a main challenge.
