Employees, volunteers will prepare and e-file tax returns for millions of low-income, elderly and non English speaking taxpayers
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has selected TaxWise® from CCH Small Firm Services (SFS) as the software used by IRS employees and volunteers to prepare and electronically file tax returns for millions of low-income, elderly and limited-English proficient taxpayers.
This marks the 15th consecutive year that TaxWise® has won this prestigious contract.
TaxWise and its web-based version TaxWise Online were selected following an open, two-year competition involving several software publishers. The five-year contract award (one year with four one-year renewal options) covers approximately 10,000 IRS-supported Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Tax Counselors for the Elderly (TCE) locations as well as IRS-operated Taxpayer Assistance Centers (TAC). TaxWise is also provided to IRS employees for preparation and e-filing of their personal tax returns.
All together, more than three million federal and two million state returns were prepared and filed in 2009 under the IRS contract.
In awarding the contract, the IRS said that both TaxWise and TaxWise Online “provide strong security requirements to protect taxpayer data and interview based completion, bridging traditional preparer and individual based software.”
“We’re pleased that the IRS has once again selected TaxWise as the tax preparation and e-filing software that will be used to help millions of Americans prepare and file their tax returns,” said SFS President Jeff Gramlich. “Fulfilling the stringent demands of the IRS contract has helped to make TaxWise an industry leader in usability, training, customer assistance and bilingual support.”
TaxWise is the only professional tax preparation program to offer more than 50 popular IRS forms as well as context-sensitive help and Customer and Technical Support in both Spanish and English. TaxWise Online is particularly popular at overseas military bases and for use on our ships at sea.
Under the new contract, SFS will provide web-based training to many of the IRS volunteers and employees, including lessons on installing and running the software and preparing tax returns.
All of the popular features of TaxWise, such as TaxWise University, audio and visual help features, ad hoc reports and customer support, are continued in the new contract.
