Wolters Kluwer China signs memorandum of understanding with Trusted Doctors

New agreement aims to support evidence-based medicine in China.

Wolters Kluwer China has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Trusted Doctors, a leading Chinese mobile healthcare startup, to promote the development of evidence-based medicine in China. Both organizations will provide resources for Chinese clinicians to access high-quality medical information quickly and improve the quality of diagnostic and treatment decisions.

Denise Basow MD, President and CEO, Clinical Effectiveness, Wolters Kluwer; Lai Qi, General Manager of the Chengdu office of Wolters Kluwer China; Martin Shen, Co-founder and CEO of Trusted Doctors and Xu Lin Co-founder and COO attended the ceremony. Prior to signing the agreement, the two organizations discussed ways to further strengthen their cooperation.

Wolters Kluwer's clinical decision support resource UpToDate® Clinical Consultant and the comprehensive clinical drug reference tool, MCDEX, have been added to the Trusted Doctors mobile application platform. Under the MOU, the two companies will work together to promote the adoption of evidence-based medicine for clinical practice. In addition, Wolters Kluwer and Trusted Doctors will engage in deep and sustained cooperation in a range of aspects including overall resource planning, communication and coordination, and marketing in an effort to support business development. The two organizations aim to expand their collaboration in domestic and foreign medical information exchange, evidence-based medicine and medical information services, as well as continuing medical education.

"With operations covering a wide range of health sectors, Wolters Kluwer has many flagship brands, including UpToDate, the evidence-based clinical decision support resource. By working with Trusted Doctors, we can help ensure better access to current, evidence-based medical knowledge for Chinese clinicians and support China's ongoing medical reforms," said Dr. Basow.

Lai Qi emphasized that clinical diagnosis and treatment is at the core of medical care and of clinician training: "We have been in dialogue with Trusted Doctors since early 2015, exploring ways to cooperate. The signing of the MOU reflects the shared interest and enthusiasm to deliver high quality, evidence-based medical information to clinicians. We look forward to building similar partnerships with other organizations committed to improving the quality of care in China."

Martin Shen added that Trusted Doctors has created a platform for online communication and collaboration among doctors as well as between doctors and their patients: "Both UpToDate Clinical Consultant and MCDEX are leading clinical knowledge resources built on evidence-based medicine. Trusted Doctors is highly complementary and we share a strong affinity. I believe that this platform will provide high quality resources to Chinese medical professionals."
