Drug information from Wolters Kluwer relied on by 95% of U.S. News & World Report 2016-2017 Honor Roll Hospitals

The Health division of Wolters Kluwer, a leading global provider of information and point of care solutions for the healthcare industry, announced today that its industry leading drug information solutions are relied upon by 95% of the nation’s top hospitals, as ranked by U.S. News & World Report (USNWR) on its 2016–2017 Best Hospitals Honor Roll. These eminent hospitals leverage evidence-based and fully referenced content, including dosing, precautions and alerts, preparations, and clinical practice guidelines, from the Clinical Drug Information unit of Wolters Kluwer to advance safe medication practices and reduce drug-related errors.

USNWR ranks its Honor Roll hospitals in nine bellwether procedures and conditions, four of which were added for the 2016–2017 Best Hospitals Honor Roll, including colon and lung cancer surgery and aortic valve surgery. This year’s Honor Roll determination also took into consideration both the Best Hospitals national rankings, which ranks hospitals in 16 specialties on how well they care for patients with complex needs, and the procedure and condition ratings. Hospitals received points if they were nationally ranked in one of the 16 specialties and how many ratings of “high performing” they earned in the nine procedures and conditions. The 20 with the highest points make up the Honor Roll.

Clinical Drug Information provides 19 of the 20 Honor Roll hospitals with industry-leading solutions to help them reduce medication errors and enhance the quality of care:

  • Lexicomp® – online drug references, mobile apps, customized formulary databases, and handbooks
  • Medi-Span® – EMR-integrated data to power clinical screening
  • Facts & Comparisons® – enhanced pharmacy content, online drug references, and handbooks

“Clinical Drug Information is dedicated to delivering clinicians the evidence-based drug information they need to make safer medication decisions,” said Denise Basow, MD, President & CEO of Clinical Effectiveness at Wolters Kluwer. “It is gratifying to know that so many of the nation’s elite hospitals rely on our solutions to help reduce harmful medication errors and provide safer, higher quality care.”
