Wolters Kluwer Opens Registration for Educational Webinar on Wireless and Wireline Broadband Deployment

Following the implementation of the first wave of U.S. commercial deployments of 5G, industry experts will discuss evolving regulatory landscape

(New York, NY) – Wolters Kluwer Legal & Regulatory U.S. today announced that registration is open for its upcoming webinar, “Funding and Facilitating Wireless and Wireline Broadband Deployment.” Featuring a panel of acclaimed industry experts, the webinar will focus on how the actions of policy-makers, siting authorities, and other government agencies can smooth the way or throw up obstacles for U.S. telecommunications providers’ efforts to upgrade their networks to 5G wireless and fiber optic, packet-based broadband technologies. The webinar will take place on Thursday, November 1, from 1 PM – 2 PM EDT, and participants will have the opportunity to earn one free CLE credit by attending the live hour-long webinar.

Moderated by Paul Kirby and Lynn Stanton, the experts behind Wolters Kluwer’s TR Daily and Telecommunications Reports, the webinar will provide insight on the current landscape and discuss the ways in which the government can either add regulatory hurdles or smooth the obstacles to deployment. The webinar will feature Zac Champ, Vice President of Government Affairs for the Wireless Infrastructure Association; Diane Griffin Holland, Vice President of Law and Policy at USTelecom; Brett Kilbourne, Vice President of Policy and General Counsel at the Utilities Technology Council; Gerry Lederer, Partner at Best, Best & Krieger LLP; and Brandon Presley, Chairman of the Mississippi Public Service Commission.

“While the first wave of U.S. commercial deployments of 5G has been implemented, only a handful of deployments are expected before year-end,” said Paul Kirby, Senior Editor of Wolters Kluwer’s TR Daily. “During this webinar, we will explore the significant obstacles that must be overcome in order to broaden 5G deployment beyond these few select markets.”

“Meanwhile, wireline networks are also being upgraded to deliver gigabit speeds. And ultimately even 5G wireless will depend on wireline networks,” said Lynn Stanton, Senior Editor of Wolters Kluwer’s TR Daily. “The webinar will also look at how actions by the FCC and governments at all levels that control rights of way will affect deployment.”

The discussion will cover a wide range of topics including:

  • The different types of broadband deployment;
  • The ways in which government is involved;
  • Spectrum allocation;
  • 5G and small cell infrastructure;
  • FCC proceedings on lowering barriers;
  • FCC proceedings to fund broadband;
  • The FCC’s Broadband Deployment Advisory Committee.
