“We heard from many physicians who use UpToDate in their clinical practice to access current knowledge and patient care recommendations,” said Jill M. Baren, M.D., President of ABEM. “As a result, we have made this resource an integral part of future ConCert Examinations. We believe this new collaboration enables ABEM to proactively respond to changes in the way emergency physicians practice while ensuring that our certification exams preserve our high standards.”
UpToDate will be the first online resource available during the ConCert™ Examination which assesses the knowledge, judgment, and skills of emergency physicians. As part of their continuing certification process, ABEM-certified physicians are required to pass the ConCert™ Examination.
While taking the exams, physicians will have real-time access to UpToDate as a refletion of how they would typically search for the latest evidence and clinical guidelines in the midst of caring for patients.
“The contemporary practice of medicine requires timely access to trusted, evidence-based information that can help inform clinical decisions,” said Peter Bonis, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Clinical Effectiveness, Wolters Kluwer. “We are pleased with the ABEM’s decision to provide access to UpToDate during ConCert Exams. It will help continuing certification better reflect actual clinical practice.”
