Health Shared Services British Columbia (HSSBC) Chooses to Sign Multi-Year Contract with Lexicomp Across Entire Region

The contract, which covers 57 acute sites and 5,769 acute beds, gives clinicians hospital-wide access to Lexicomp Online

Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that Health Shared Services BC (HSSBC) signed a multi-year contract with  Lexicomp on behalf of the Health Authorities it represents following an extensive evaluation process. Lexicomp is a leading provider of medical information and clinical content solutions for the healthcare industry. They provide the tools necessary to help improve patient safety, ensure compliance, and elevate the quality of care patients receive.

The contract, which covers 57 acute sites and 5,769 acute beds, gives clinicians hospital-wide access to Lexicomp Online with the following three Health Authorities implementing Lexicomp: Vancouver Coastal Health (including Providence Health Care), Fraser Health Authority and Vancouver Island Health Authority.

These Health Authorities now have access to two independent drug information resources through Lexicomp Online: Lexi-Drugs® and the American Hospital Formulary Service (AHFS). The systems feature a variety of medication topics including pediatric, adult and geriatric dosing and guidelines, adverse effects, drug interactions and patient education, I.V. compatibility, pregnancy and lactation and many more.

“Lexicomp is honored to provide our comprehensive products and services to British Columbia’s healthcare professionals,” said Steven Kerscher, Lexicomp’s Vice President and General Manager. “Our team is engaged in delivering an unparalleled level of support to those hospitals covered under the HSSBC contract; delivering Lexicomp content and applications that drive positive patient outcomes. The hospitals will have multiple resources available to them such as onsite, web-based, and self-guided training in addition to easy-to-use applications to find accurate, reliable, and clinically-relevant information quickly and effectively.”

Lexicomp training has been in progress since the beginning of June immediately following HSSBC’s finalization of the contract. Lexicomp staff visited approximately 23 sites for on-site training that reached more than 300 professionals.

“Lexicomp was selected as our medical information provider due to their use of Canadian content, user friendly layout, sufficient depth of information, multiple language patient education leaflets, the excellent mobile handheld software and their overall customer service,” said Dr. Adil Virani, a Director with the Lower Mainland Pharmacy Services in Vancouver.

Wolters Kluwer Health’s Clinical Solutions business unit provides evidence-based medical content, workflow-based applications software and services that allow clinicians to efficiently and effectively diagnose and document patient care. Key brands ProVation Medical, UpToDate®, Medi-Span, Facts & Comparisons, Lexicomp, Pharmacy OneSource® and Medicom (China) lead in market segments that include drug information, disease information, clinical patient order sets, clinical documentation and hospital pharmacy productivity applications.
