The first phase of MTD went live in April 2019. VAT-registered businesses over the threshold of £85,000 now have to submit data directly to HMRC, via compliant software.
Since then, HMRC's online interface has become unavailable to those businesses over the VAT threshold. To comply with MTD and avoid facing non-compliance penalties, businesses over the VAT threshold now need to embrace digitalisation. HMRC's final VAT notice is a valuable resource to refer to.
