CCH iFirm enables smooth business operations for Forward Accounting
Forward Accounting was established in 2005, with a specialisation in servicing small to medium businesses and an aim to help their clients simplify the financial side of their lives.

Exploring a full-cloud solution
In establishing her own practice, Forward Accounting Director, Tania Garbes, was keen to explore a full-cloud solution.
“Back then, we were using MYOB and I was getting frustrated with the lack of development, and everything was on desktop. I had purchased a block of fees which were using APS. This had its own challenges with WIP and debtors process – I never knew how much money was owing to me. With 5 staff at the time and many returns, I had no visual of jobs and what stage they were at. It just wasn’t a good way to run a business.
“I was suddenly working between two-offices as well, so having a server-based solution didn’t work, and we wanted something on the cloud,” said Tania.
Complete practice visibility
After implementing CCH iFirm integrated software (CCH iFirm Practice Manager, Client Accounting, Tax, Document Vault, Client Portal and Signatures) the Forward Accounting team saw an immediate benefit.
“We also had an accurate record of where jobs are at and could query any issues and identify any jobs that are not being worked on.”
A single, client-centric view
For the Forward Accounting team, a client-focussed view is a must when it comes to their software.
“CCH iFirm gives you a nice central location for all the client accounting and tax returns – and they’re linked to the client – which makes it quick and easy to find. It’s very client-focussed,” said Tania.
“We’ve used the software for many years now and we’re really happy with it. A number of times over the years we’ve explored other options. For example, we have clients using Xero and we’ve had the opportunity to have Xero Practice Manager or Tax modules for free. We’ve looked at it, but it doesn’t do what CCH iFirm does.
“Plus the CCH iFirm dashboard/homepage has all the important stats on it, so we can see immediately if we’re behind on filing any tax returns or need to clear through any tax assessment notices.”
Supporting smooth business operations
Forward Accounting has also been using CCH iFirm Workpapers (Business Fitness New Zealand) and CCH Entities Companies for many years.
“Again, we’ve explored other Workpapers solutions, but have found that they’re not substantial enough for practice review and for helping us feel confident in meeting tax requirements.
“We also use CCH Entities; one of my team manages all our company returns, and it’s working well. When there’s no complaints, you know it’s all working well!”
