AI in Nursing Education: Opportunities and challenges

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is growing across academia. Recognizing both the benefits and the challenges of this emerging technology, this session will explore how faculty can use AI to enhance teaching and assessment and coach students on how to use these tools. Considerations for institutional policies will also be addressed.

This webinar will:

  1. Examine current perceptions and knowledge regarding appropriate use of artificial intelligence (AI) in nursing education
  2. Describe strategies and guidelines for utilizing AI to develop and deliver student-centered learning activities
  3. Explore strategies to utilize AI when developing learning assessments, including quizzes and exams
  4. Respond intentionally to the growing presence of AI in nursing education and practice.

About the speakers

Aleesa Kittrell
Aleesa Kittrell, DNP, RN, CNE, CMSRN
Aleesa Kittrell has worked as a nurse educator for over 10 years, teaching in clinical, lab, and classroom settings, as well as serving in educational leadership. She holds certifications as a Certified Nurse Educator (CNE) and Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse (CMSRN). Aleesa is a member of Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society, the National League for Nursing, and the Academy of Medical Surgical Nurses.
Sheila Chery
Sheila Chery, BSN, RN
Sheila has been a registered nurse for over 15 years. In California, she worked primarily in adult orthopaedics and neurology, then spent several years in Haiti providing pediatric and community healthcare in the orphanage where she lived and surrounding villages. Sheila joined the Clinical Judgment Exam (CJE) team in 2021. After writing and reviewing thousands of test items, she is excited to be mentoring others in the art of NGN item writing. Sheila lives in South Carolina with her son, and together they enjoy staying active outdoors, attending local theater productions, and being involved in their church.

Kelly Dries
Kelly Dries, PhD, RN
Dr. Kelly J. Dries has more than 25 years of experience as a transformational leader and nurse educator at the graduate and undergraduate levels. She has demonstrated success in higher education, specifically leading a broad range of nursing programs, and has a history of academic enterprise impact along with expertise in mastering academic, programmatic, and operational challenges.
Dries earned her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and Master of Science in Nursing degree and Doctorate in Leadership for the Advancement of Learning and Service in Higher Education from Cardinal Stritch University.
