New innovation Copilot extension with CCH Axcess showcased at Microsoft Build Conference

Discover how Wolters Kluwer’s Copilot extension for CCH Axcess enhances client service with boosted productivity and streamlined workflow

Wolters Kluwer has collaborated with Microsoft to develop a new kind of Copilot extension that enhances how tax and accounting professionals interact with their workflows and client data. Showcased in the Microsoft Build 2024 Conference Keynote, the extension allows customers to not only use natural language to query information from CCH Axcess, but also to start actions. The result is a more interactive and efficient way of meeting client needs.

Elevating the professional with CCH Axcess and Microsoft Copilot

Jeff Teper, President - Microsoft 365 Collaborative Apps & Platforms, Microsoft, showcasing the Wolters Kluwer’s Copilot extension for CCH Axcess, said, “Let me show you what one of our customers, Wolters Kluwer, who's a leader in information and software and solutions is doing to enhance their tax and accounting professionals workflow with Copilot.

“They're building a Copilot extension [that connects with CCH Axcess] to enable their accountants to complete each step of their workflows, interacting with their back-end system, just using natural language with no context switching.

“Copilot takes actions on their behalf, saving time and cutting the process down from minutes to seconds.

“When it's time to communicate back to their client, the extensions help to close the loop, drafts an e-mail, attach the estimates, and ensures a seamless end-to-end productive experience.”

Impact on tax and accounting professionals

“With the Copilot extension, we’re offering our customers a new, conversational way of interacting not only with their Office 365 environment, but also with workflows and client data within CCH Axcess, bridging the gap between the two worlds” explained Fabio Bagatin, VP Technology Innovation, Digital eXperience Group (*/dxg), Wolters Kluwer Tax & Accounting. “GenAI makes this more interactive and more intelligent experience possible because it has the capability to understand the context and goal of a request and apply that understanding to recommend extensions, content and actions to best meet that goal.”

As shown in the demo, the Copilot extension enables tax professionals to summarize recent client communications, retrieve client details, and update and create new client records. It can also analyze previous engagements conducted by the firm to propose estimates of engagement hours and billing fees. The preparer can then ask Copilot to create a new engagement for the client in CCH Axcess and draft an email to the client with the engagement letter – all within seconds from one conversational interface.

In practical terms, the impact on tax and accounting professionals will be significant:

  • Boosted productivity: By automating these essential but often time-consuming tasks professionals can accomplish more in less time.
  • Enhanced client service: Quickly analyzing past engagements allows professionals to offer precise estimates and tailored services grounded in data, enhancing client satisfaction.
  • Streamlined workflow: Consolidating various tools into one user-friendly chat interface streamlines operations, reducing errors and improving client management.

Leveraging AI to build firm intelligence

This strategic application of AI underscores Wolters Kluwer's commitment to building firm intelligence that enhances operational efficiency, elevates professional capabilities, and enriches client service. Through GenAI, user interactions with technical solutions are being transformed, as seen with the CCH Axcess Copilot extension.  By simplifying complex processes, tax and accounting professionals can make well-informed decisions promptly, ultimately delivering superior outcomes for their clients.
