Description
Publishes original research articles and reviews on the mechanisms whereby molecular and biochemical processes control cellular activity with a particular emphasis on the integration of molecular and cell biology, biochemistry and physiology in the regulation of tissue function in health and disease.

The primary remit of the journal is on mammalian biology, both in vivo and in vitro, but studies of cells in situ are especially prioritized. Observational and pathological studies include a rational discussion of the possible molecular and biochemical mechanisms behind them and the immediate impact of these observations to our understanding of mammalian biology.

Areas of particular interest include:

  • The actions of locally derived, e.g., neurotransmitters, growth factors; or systemic, e.g., hormones, drugs, micro-nutrients; modulators of cell function

  • The control of the cell cycle with respect to cell proliferation, differentiation and death

  • DNA and RNA processing and the effects on cellular activity

  • The immune system and inflammatory responses

  • Lipid peroxidation, free radicals and antioxidants and their role in membrane function

  • Intra-cellular organelles and the control of cellular metabolism

  • Dysregulation of cellular function in disease
