The calculator will be available for use online and on handheld platforms with the Lexi-CALC™ module.

Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today the availability of the new Advanced Life Support Neonatal Calculator for Lexicomp Online and Lexicomp On-Hand. This calculator provides both weight-based dosing and volumes to be administered within one easy-to-read table for patients less than 28 days.

Lexicomp is a leading provider of medical information and clinical content solutions for the healthcare industry. They provide the tools necessary to help improve patient safety, ensure compliance, and elevate the quality of care patients receive. In an effort to increase patient safety at the point-of-care, Lexicomp is focused on helping more healthcare professionals make safer and faster decisions by continuing to enhance and create new, easy-to-use calculators. Like the adult and pediatric emergency drug calculators Lexicomp offers the Advanced Life Support Neonatal Calculator to be printed and placed on a patient chart or at the bedside for immediate use in an emergency situation. This calculator will be available for use online and on handheld platforms with the Lexi-CALC™ module.  The calculator provides results for accurate dosing of the following drugs: adenosine, amiodarone, atropine, calcium chloride, calcium gluconate, dextrose, epinephrine, lidocaine, magnesium sulfate, naloxone, procainamide, and sodium bicarbonate. Selected administration notes are also included to guide the clinician in the proper administration of these agents during an emergency.

“The dosing guidelines for the new neonatal calculator are based on the Neonatal Resuscitation Program and Pediatric Advanced Life Support Guidelines,” says Steven Kerscher, Lexicomp’s Vice President and General Manager. “To accurately calculate the neonates’ dosage, the calculator uses the patient’s actual weight to be entered. We have found the weight-based calculator to be the most precise dosage for a patient of this young age.”
