The team at Wolters Kluwer HQ sits down with Rachael McLean, Consulting and Implementation Specialist in the Tax & Accounting space, to discuss what she joined Wolters Kluwer APAC, and her experience working with the team.
What is your role at Wolters Kluwer?
I work in the Consulting & Implementation team. I specialise in our professional software suite of solutions for accountants, which includes CCH iFirm, Workpapers, and more. In a nutshell, I would say I provide consulting and training solutions for our clients who are in public practice.
Why did you join Wolters Kluwer?
I'm from practice myself. I started off in practice, but I found software solutions were more to my liking after years in the industry. I also really wanted to do something where I felt like I was giving back and supporting an industry I loved so much.
As such, I decided to join the Wolters Kluwer team almost 7 years ago and haven’t looked back since.
What makes our company different from others you've worked for?
Well, the size of the company is fantastic, and also the longevity of the company. We are a global organisation in 40 countries with over 40,000 employees. This means there is so much support not just in APAC but across the world.
But what makes it really different is that we always want to be number one in what we do. Being at the forefront, whether it's tax and accounting, audit, corporate, health, legal, or others, we always strive to be the best at what we do and we never stop innovating as a result.
What do you think is one of Wolters Kluwer’s most meaningful customs?
I wouldn’t call it a custom, but the one thing we always do is focus on making our customers’ lives better.
We’re always bringing trusted solutions to the marketplace, whether it's through our CCH iFirm solution, our trusted CCH Master Tax Guide, or even CCH powering the ATO website – bringing those trusted solutions to the marketplace to make our customers lives better is what we’re always focused towards.
What qualities do people need to be successful here?
You definitely have to be a team player. If you're not a team player, you simply will not survive. We certainly were not able to create this business each on our own. You also need to have respect for other team members because we're all encouraged to bring our authentic self to the workplace.
What work are you most proud of and why?
The pinnacle for me was being asked to present at The Tax Summit at the Emerging Leaders panel with one of my colleagues, Andy Hung. I knew I was pushing above my pay grade when I accepted, because my colleague had so much technical tax experience and had managed a team of tax professionals in the past. I knew I really had to step up to the plate, and I did! To also have Wolters Kluwer trust me to represent the brand is something I will never forget.
What values are important to you and how do you experience those values here at Wolters Kluwer?
There’s so many! The ones that stand out would be bringing our trusted solutions to the marketplace, being a team player, and being customer-first. We’re always owning our customers' challenges and solving them through our solutions, so that's probably something that I value most and see a lot here at Wolters Kluwer.
How satisfied are you with your opportunity to learn and grow in this organisation?
I’m 100% satisfied. I've never belonged to an organisation that has moved so quickly in bringing their respective deliverables to the marketplace in a timely fashion. It is amazing the work we do here.
Finally, what do you think encourages employees to stay at this company?
Definitely the recognition, that's at the forefront. It also helps that we’re all able to work with such a talented, motivating, uplifting and happy group of people. We at Wolters Kluwer love what we do, and we want to make our solutions better. I feel that’s why people stay, especially myself.
