Does your legal department operate in the best way possible?
That is the question fueling the impressive rise of the legal operations function in legal departments around the world.
Where the legal department was once solely focused on providing legal advice, today’s C-suite expects that the legal department is managed like any other business unit. This means that legal department leaders need to find ways to maximise productivity, streamline processes and focus more on creating value. They must do it all while keeping a keen eye on costs.
The call to “do more with less” has never been more persistent. But for legal departments with limited resources or know-how, answering this call can be challenging.
In order to find out how legal departments are meeting legal operations challenges and what their perspective is on legal operations, Wolters Kluwer carried out a survey among more than 110 legal departments in the U.K. and the Netherlands.
Key findings include:
- 29% have a dedicated legal operations within their team.
- 40% believe every team will employ a legal operations professional within 3 to 5 years.
- Budget, followed by lack of time, are the biggest obstacles to improving or implementing legal operations.
