In this expert panel, leaders from Galen College of Nursing and the University of Maryland’s Baltimore Washington Medical Center share their strategies for addressing critical challenges of newly licensed nurses, residents, and educators. They offer best practices for facilitating evidence-based practice (EBP), quality improvement (QI), and research innovation in nursing education and clinical settings.
Additionally, the University of Maryland’s Baltimore Washington Medical Center conduct a live demonstration of Ovid® Synthesis, a workflow solution that streamlines the design and implementation of EBP projects — ensuring consistency in teaching, learning, and practice. The presentation concludes with a 15-minute Q&A session.
About the speakers
Dr. Audria Denker joined Galen College of Nursing in 2005, and she currently serves as Executive Vice President of Nursing (EVP). In her current position, she is responsible for day-to-day program operations, staffing and workload, clinical operations, simulation, and student support. During her tenure as EVP, all prelicensure RN programs obtained ACEN accreditation. She recently received accolades for her work with associate degree nursing programs by being name a Fellow in the Academy of Associate Degree Nursing (FAADN) and named to Academy of Nursing Education Fellows (ANEF) for her contributions to solving the nursing shortages in Eastern KY.
Dr. DiRubbo is an experienced nursing professional, with over 15 years of experience in direct patient care and education, as well as performance enhancement to support facility optimization. Utilizing an appreciative inquiry approach, Stephanie develops, integrates, and executes customized and efficient program evaluation and interventional techniques to support areas of growth and organizational excellence. Currently, Stephanie is the Simulation Coordinator at University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center. She also supports the nurse residency evidence-based practice course and serves as a UMMS Ovid® Synthesis buildout team member.
Niki is a Professional Development Specialist who currently serves as the Nurse Residency Coordinator as well as the Pathway to Excellence® Coordinator at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center. She focuses on the use of unique educational techniques to develop adult learners of all generations and skill sets.
Rachel Dicker is a Product Management Associate at Wolters Kluwer, Health Learning, Research & Practice. She is responsible for creating and implementing product strategies, innovation, and market outreach for new clinical research and information solutions. Her current focus is supporting academic and clinical leadership to teach, adopt, implement, and disseminate best practices to improve quality, safety, investments and patient outcomes. She received the 2021 Health Learning, Research & Practice High Performance Recognition Award and the 2021 Wolters Kluwer Global Innovation Award.
