Amanda Heidemann, MD, FAAFP is Board Certified in Family Medicine and Clinical Informatics, and brings her extensive experience to Wolters Kluwer and the UpToDate® team to work with health administrators and care organizations seeking clinical transformation and optimization of technology solutions. She is passionate about using technology to enhance the patient-physician relationship and to deliver high-quality healthcare.

Dr. Heidemann’s technology career began with the “paperless practice” pilot for BJC Medical Group in 2002 and was appointed as its first EHR Medical Director in 2005. She provided clinical leadership for the development and implementation of EHR and HIE solutions across a large multispecialty enterprise to transform medical office practice and enhance the patient experience. She transitioned to a full-time informatics practice in 2007 while continuing to deliver care part-time in emergency and urgent care settings.

In 2011, she joined NextGen Healthcare’s physician consulting team in 2011, contributing to initiatives across a wide range of disciplines including EHR development, product management, client experience, and clinical transformation, ultimately leading a team of consultants charged with optimizing EHR and technology solutions for the company’s clinical and business end users.

In 2018, Dr. Heidemann began providing CMIO, product management, and clinical advising services to provider organizations and several software and solution developers in the patient engagement, EHR, and population health spaces. She joined MDLIVE as its first Medical Director of Informatics, focused on telehealth technology and providing both clinical and technical leadership through the COVID-19 pandemic, supporting clinicians with the latest clinical guidelines in the EHR and optimizing provider workflows with new telehealth utilization.

From 2021 to 2023 Dr. Heidemann served as founding Chief Medical Information Officer and Chief Medical Officer for KeyCare, a nationwide telehealth platform built using the Epic EHR. She also served in 2023 and 2024 as Principal, Clinical Strategy for eVisit, refining their virtual nursing and telehealth solution offerings before returning to her consulting practice. Dr. Heidemann served on the Virtual Care Advisory Panel for the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) and provides expert resource consultation for a wide range of healthcare technology-related legal matters.

A Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, she received her MD degree from Washington University School of Medicine, completed residency at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center, and served as Chief Resident. She was part of the first cohort of physicians to be Board Certified in Clinical Informatics by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. Dr. Heidemann currently practices telehealth urgent care and serves as a medical volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America. She is President-Elect of the St. Louis Academy of Physicians.
