National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Wolters Kluwer release Consensus Responsibility and Guardianship Report

Wolters Kluwer, a global leader in professional information, software solutions, and services, announces that the National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC) and Wolters Kluwer have released the “Consensus, Responsibility, and Guardianship — Ten Questions on Global Research Integrity” Report during the 2024 World Laureates Forum which was successfully held in Shanghai, China on October 25 - 27.

The annual forum serves as a pivotal platform for high-level dialogue within the global scientific arena. The report was released at the Mobius Forum, where over twenty leading scientists and researchers engaged in in-depth discussion on the theme Reshaping Scientific Publishing for Excellence.

The report analyzes ten issues concerning the status and challenges of academic misconduct globally, incorporating insights from various stakeholders. The aim of the report is to provide recommendations for fostering a more responsible, transparent, and sustainable research ecosystem.

In the opening speech at the Mobius Forum, Christie Wang, Vice President and Managing Director, China, Wolters Kluwer Global Growth Markets, highlighted three key factors that are reshaping scientific publishing in the world: collaboration, accessibility, and artificial intelligence (AI). “Publishing isn’t just about sharing findings, it’s about fostering collaboration, ensuring accessibility, upholding integrity, and maintaining rigorous standards that can drive innovation across the globe,” said Wang.

In the keynote session, Prof. Yang Liying, Researcher and Director, Department of Scientometrics and Research Evaluation, National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences, introduced the methodology and main findings of the Report. She emphasized that addressing research integrity issues requires joint efforts from the global research community, including strengthening education, improving evaluation mechanisms, enhancing governance, and building collaborative frameworks. These efforts aim to establish a more honest, transparent, and sustainably developing research ecosystem.

In 2020, the NSLC and Wolters Kluwer established the “Medical Evaluation and Data Intelligence” Joint Laboratory to foster a responsible research ecosystem. The Joint Laboratory initiated the long-term research project that culminated in the Ten Questions on Global Research Integrity Report, which received strong support from the global Health Research team, including Rafael Sidi, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Health Research Business, and Ian Burgess, Senior Director of Publishing and Open Research.

“At Wolters Kluwer, promoting integrity in scientific and medical research is a top priority and a core value that guides everything we do,” commented Sidi. “Research integrity is the foundation upon which all reliable scientific inquiry is built.” In the following weeks, the Report will be promoted as a milestone thought leadership piece to industry experts to drive awareness of the importance of integrity in the research community.
