Lippincott DocuCare, which teaches students to think critically about documentation, can be used throughout your nursing education program in many ways to enhance clinical education and to allow students to learn how to use an academic EHR in a safe, true-to-life setting.
Use a Lippincott DocuCare patient record in the classroom to show students various diagnoses and to reinforce textbook content in a patient example. Show the appropriate care plan, notes, assessments, orders, medications, vital signs, and diagnostics for that patient. Teaching tip: Reverse your case studies by giving students a completed patient chart and ask them to tell YOU the diagnosis.
Use the pre-populated patient records or build your own to add realism to the simulation scenarios. Did You Know? As part of a partnership with Laerdal Medical, over 75 of Lippincott DocuCare’s records correspond to Laerdal simulation scenarios, including the NLN Simulation in Nursing Education series and ACES Unfolding Cases.
With Lippincott DocuCare, students can easily create privacy-protected patient records to document their patient care in the clinical setting. These patient records can be customized with clinical support information and submitted for review.
Two available care plan builders in Lippincott DocuCare allow student to either document a care plan from scratch or choose a pre-populated care plan from Lippincott Advisor. Students can submit their care plans electronically for evaluation.
Do students have limited clinical and simulation time for pediatric, maternity or mental health patients? The pre-populated patient records and learning activities allow for greater interactive patient-centered practice for these populations.
Via SmartSense links, students have access to consistently updated diagnosis and medication information from Lippincott Advisor and skill and procedure information from Lippincott Procedures. These are the same point-of-care resources used by thousands of nurses on a daily basis.
Do you have a case study you’ve been using for years? It’s easy to build a patient chart in Lippincott DocuCare to match your case study. You can even add diagnostic images and SmartSense links to clinical information.
Instructor Resources are available across the nursing curriculum and consist of First Day of Class materials, scavenger hunts for beginning and advanced students, and Learning Activities for each patient record. Learning Activities include: learning objectives, pre-simulation and post-simulation quizzes, homework assignments, suggested readings, NCLEX tips, and QSEN tips.
Our nurse educator consultants (NEC) provide regular webinars for Lippincott DocuCare users to share best practices and creative ideas to implement an EHR into your program.
