Establishing an opioid stewardship program across a health system: Steward Health Care's success

Slowing the ever-growing opioid crisis begins in the hospital. In most cases, Opioid Stewardship programs are heavily focused on outpatient treatment areas and emergency departments. The Joint Commission has these stewardship programs as part of its current pain standards for hospitals and many health system facilities. However, one study shows only 23% of hospitals have an opioid stewardship program in place.

Nicole LeFever, RPh, PharmD, and Danielle Kreig, PharmD, BCPS, of Steward Health Care, joins Rich Dion, PharmD, of Wolters Kluwer to share how Steward successfully established a robust opioid stewardship program across facilities in the health system.

In this webinar, we discuss the following:

  • The current state of the opioid crisis and regulatory drivers for establishing opioid stewardship programs
  • Best practices for implementing an opioid stewardship program at a hospital or health system
  • Key metrics to measure success and identify opportunities for improvement with your hospital's opioid stewardship program
  • How technology can support various aspects of opioid stewardship, including operationalizing policies and best practices
