International tax compliance firm finds a solution for managing complex tax returns

Not all tax software is the same, and this becomes especially apparent when dealing with complex tax returns. International tax compliance, for example, can be especially complex. Firms that specialize in these issues rely on software vendors to provide expert solutions that go beyond the basics

Orbiss, Inc. is a New York-based accounting firm that specializes in international business needs. Founding Partner Marc Trost and Senior Manager Tomasz Czerwinski recently discussed how CCH Axcess Tax handles the firm’s international tax preparation and compliance.

“We feel like CCH Axcess Tax is the leader in the industry for tax preparation software,” says Tomasz Czerwinski, Senior Manager. “We feel like the software is constantly being updated with the new forms and for new regulations. So we like how the company is on top of the latest developments in tax.”

Marc Trost, Founding Partner, agrees. “We have been working with CCH for several years now. And we can feel that for each tax season, we have new tools, and customers are seeing that we like a lot of innovation. So it's not like you're using the same company. But it's like a new software every year, which is important for us and for our clients.”

Why did your firm choose CCH Axcess Tax?

Managing complexity for international clients

Accuracy is always top of mind for accountants, but with complex returns, accuracy can take a lot of effort. At Orbiss, Trost relies on controls within the system to help identify and prevent errors.

He says, “We have a lot of international clients, and CCH is helping us because we are getting more and more complex international forms. And I find that there are a lot of controls with CCH Axcess Tax. So overriding data is very difficult, almost impossible. And you have a lot of diagnostics, which you need to clear before being able to file returns. It brings a lot of security controls, and it improves quality.”

How does CCH Axcess Tax help your firm manage complexity?

Building efficiency through automation

With complex returns, automation can take some of the pressure off of preparers. By pulling data into a return automatically, preparers and reviewers can skip data entry and focus on the important parts of the return.

“When we use CCH Axcess Tax, we like how we can rollover a lot of the data from the previous year to the next year,” says Czerwinski. “And it's maintained a lot of the data that we need to prepare the tax returns for the next year. So it saves our team time, where we don't have to enter all that information every year.”

Trost continues, “We're also using CCH Axcess Engagement (formerly Financial Prep) to import the data from our clients within the software. And we can go over this information from year to year, so that we don't have to reinvent the wheel each year. And it saves us a lot of time. Because before that, we were doing it in Excel, which is not a long time ago, but it's not efficient at all. And so the CCH solution brings a lot of efficiency.”

How does automation make your tax process more efficient?
International tax returns present complex issues for clients and firms. Instead of adding complexity, a firm’s technology should help them manage it. With CCH Axcess Tax, Orbiss is able to serve its clients more effectively.
