The 2025 ICD-10-CM update breakdown: New, deleted, and revised codes

Discover the essential ICD-10 updates for 2025, including new, deleted, and revised codes.

Leaving all of us on the edge of our seats, the CDC released the FY2025 ICD-10-CM update later than usual on July 3rd with 252 new codes, 36 code deletions, and 13 code revisions making the cut, going into effect  on October 1, 2024.

This year’s release expands the diagnosis code set with more granularity, while the number of net new codes released continues to decline. Several codes have been switched to non-billable parent codes giving room to flesh out children codes, adding specificity with fifth, sixth and seventh character codes for location and state of condition.
