The Alabama code requires a privilege (or main) license for nearly every person, firm, company or corporation that wants to engage in business across the state. Some business privilege licenses are administered by the Alabama Department of Revenue while others are issued at the local level. Businesses may also need to register with the Alabama Secretary of State. The Alabama business licenses are valid October 1 through September 30 and must be renewed annually.
