Steward Health Care taps Wolters Kluwer for solutions to reduce care variation across 38-hospital network

Largest U.S. private, for-profit ACO targets standardization of care throughout care continuum.

Wolters Kluwer Health today announced that Steward Health Care has selected Wolters Kluwer as the trusted source for a range of technology solutions that deliver the latest evidence and clinical surveillance within natural workflows that engage doctors, nurses, allied health professionals as well as patients. The collaboration is part of Steward’s forward-looking strategy to reduce variability in care across its large integrated care network that is projected to care for three million lives in 2018.

“As a fast-growing organization, we are focused on ensuring patients benefit from the best possible standards of care at every Steward hospital,” said Dr. Joseph Weinstein, the Chief Medical Officer for Steward Health Care. “With Wolters Kluwer Health, Steward is confident our nurses and doctors are relying on the most current, evidence-based knowledge and technology that is optimized for their unique workflows. Across our widespread population, our patients are safer as we implement tools to detect infections more quickly and accurately.”

As the largest private, for-profit hospital operator in the United States, Steward Health Care is a physician-led health care services organization based in Dallas, Texas. Steward operates 38 community hospitals with 7,300 beds in the United States and in Malta.

“Steward Health Care is truly in the vanguard focused on improving clinical effectiveness by balancing the quality and cost equation,” said Diana Nole, CEO at Wolters Kluwer Health. “We remain committed to supporting Steward as they realize a system-wide strategy for standardizing higher quality care and increased patient safety with resources that span Steward’s far-reaching continuum of care."

Turning to Wolters Kluwer Health, Steward is equipping nursing and medical staff with resources to increase quality and improve outcomes. Nurses are empowered for point of care decision-making, continuing education and faster staff on-boarding with Lippincott Procedures, Advisor, Professional Development Collection, and Blended Learning. Clinicians can research questions in over 100 million journals, texts, books and multimedia using Ovid. In the age of antibiotic-resistant superbugs, Steward’s infection prevention teams are using Sentri7 throughout the health system to detect infections sooner and treat patients more effectively. These resources complement Steward’s long-time reliance on UpToDate, the evidence-based clinical decision support system from Wolters Kluwer Health that is trusted by clinicians around the world to make the best decisions for patient care.
