NCLEX Prep: Student use of PassPoint and NCLEX-RN outcomes
Dr. Julia Phelan
This white paper investigates how Lippincott PassPoint, powered by prepU adaptive learning, can help students develop a deeper understanding of critical NCLEX client needs and evidence-based thinking.
An investigation of student use of PrepU NCLEX 5,000 and NCLEX-PN success
Dr. Julia Phelan
This report summarizes findings from an exploratory study of students who had access to PrepU during their nursing program (practical/vocational nursing). This study is a follow-up to a broader set of studies in which we are investigating PrepU usage in students preparing for the NCLEX-PN.
Review of adaptive testing, mastery-based learning, and their educational applications
Dr. Julia Phelan
This paper presents a literature review of adaptive testing and learning as well as mastery-based learning methods. Research on use of online quizzing is also discussed.
The predictive power of PrepU
Dr. Julia Phelan
In this short paper, we discuss how data from PrepU can be used to explore patterns between usage, mastery and student outcomes.
Use of predictive tests in undergraduate nursing programs: Two perspectives HESI/ATI research summary
Dr. Julia Phelan
As part of the multi-pronged efficacy project investigating PrepU usage and subsequent impact on student learning outcomes and teaching practices, we conducted retrospective case studies in two nursing schools. Both schools use the HESI Exit Exam as part of an NCLEX preparation strategy and incorporated PrepU into their nursing programs.

This white paper offers ways for current and future nurses to take back their power as leaders and create a culture of respectful civil engagement.
Designing effective NCLEX preparation to manage test-taking anxiety
Dr. Patricia O’Hara, RN, PhD
Administered by the NCSBN (National Council of State Boards of Nursing), the NCLEX exam determines whether a candidate is sufficiently prepared to safely practice entry-level nursing. That’s why one of the most important responsibilities of nursing school faculty everywhere is getting their students ready—intellectually and emotionally—to tackle the exam with confidence and ready for success. But many educators struggle with just how to do that.
Comparing IRT difficulty and NCLEX-RN 10,000 question difficulty ratings for the top 100 items and 2000 student responses
Dr. Julia Phelan
In order to determine the relationship between question difficulty level in the NCLEX-RN 10,000 and IRT analysis difficulty we calculated correlations between the IRT-determined difficulties and the question difficulties previously determined by the NCLEX-RN 10,000. This analysis used the top 100 NCLEX-10,000 items and 2,000 students’ worth of data.
